Genus Parasterope

Diagnosis
Carapace in most species attains its maximum height in the posterior half. Ventral and posterior margins are subparallel. There is no ridge on the infold between the posterior list and the edge of the valve. The dorsal margin of the third segment of the first antenna with six spinous bristles, and the sensory seta on the fifth segment has 6 terminal filaments. In the male the endopodite of the second antenna has three segments with the thrid being elongate and reflexed. The caudal furca has 8 to 10 pairs of claw spines, posterior to which are 1 to 3 backward pointing spines.

Remarks
Genus designated by Poulsen (1965). Type species Parasterope muelleri (Skogsberg, 1920). Currently there are 38 species in the genus. The two species recorded from the region are readily distinguished by carapace shape.
