Subfamilia Azgocypridinae

Diagnosis
The carapace is large ranging in length from 4 to 15.5mm. It is oval in lateral view with a small rostrum and incisure, lacks a caudal process. Ornamentation is limited to a few minute punctae. The scars of the adductor muscles consists of a combination of elongate and ovoid scar marks. The first antenna carries numberous setae on its second and fourth segments, and in males some of the setae have spoon-shaped tips. The second segment of the exopodite of the second antenna has a long hirsute seta on the second segment, and the ninth segement carries more than four setae. The upper lip consists of a narrow vertical ridge with two large lateral lobes supported by sclerotized skeletal structures. Each lamella of the caudal furca has more than 18 claws. The lateral eyes are elongate, hirsute, flap-like structures that lack ommatidia.

This subfamily contains two genera only one of which occurs in the region
