Diagnosis
Largest known species in the rotundata group (= Metaconchoecia sensu Claus). Elongate, fragile species. Carapace with posterior end produced into a flange. Right asymmetrical gland opening below postero-dorsal corner on a slight angle in the posterior margin (C. glandulosa Habitus 1, C. glandulosa Habitus 3). Left asymmetrical gland opening close to rostrum but behind the anterior end of the hinge. Several large gland cells are present in anterior region of each valve just below incisure.
Female, frontal organ extending well beyond the end of the first antenna, terminates in large swelling (C. glandulosa 1).
Male, frontal organ down-turned, leading edge of capitulum (i.e., dorsal surface) with a distinctive concavity, trailing edge is hirsute (C. glandulosa 3). First antenna "e" seta with armature of 15 pairs of long, basally pointing spines (C. glandulosa 4).
Remarks
Rare in collections.
Distribution
Fragile species which has been regularly sampled in all oceans whenever the sampling range exceeds 2500m. 1 (R.R.S. Discovery Map).

None designated; status of original material uncertain.
Type locality
Original material collected from 26°-29°S in Indian Ocean.
