Conchoecia stigmatica

Müller, 1906

Diagnosis
Carapace length >1mm, strongly tapering anteriorly especially in male (C. stigmatica Habitus 3). Carapace sculpturing consisting of concentric pattern of rectangular and polygonal striae with circular pitting. The right asymmetrical gland opening above mid-height on the posterior margin. The sensory setae on the first antennae of both sexes are bifid, as is typical of the curta group. The male "e" seta armature is reduced to 5-8 very small stubby spines (C. stigmatica 4).

Remarks
Distinguished from C. curta (Conchoecia curta) and C. echinulata (Conchoecia echinulata) in the group on the basis of size, and from C. acuticosta (Conchoecia acuticosta) by the tapering of the carapace and the position of the opening of the right asymmetrical gland.

Distribution
Occurs in all oceans. In Atlantic 60°N-31°S. Generally, its bathymetric range is deep mesopelagic but its range appears to shoal polewards. 1, 2, 3 (R.R.S. Discovery Map).
