Müller, 1906
Diagnosis
Similar to C. kampta (Conchoecia kampta). Readily distinguished on the basis of its larger size and the pattern of sculpturing on the carapace consisting of deeply incised S-shaped grooves below the incisure, some of which divide and intercept the ventral margin at an acute angle. Over the anterior third of the carapace are cross striae forming small rectangular patterns. Right asymmetrical gland opens on an small process located slightly up the posterior margin, and dorsal of which are openings of a group of supplementary carapace glands. Left asymmetrical gland opening at postero-dorsal corner.
Female, second antenna endopodite the bases of the sensory setae are spinose (C. tyloda 2).
Male, first antenna "e" seta armature about 60 pairs of blunt-ended, flanged spines (C. tyloda 3), distal to the armature the seta is flattened into a sword-shape. Second antenna endopodite right-hand hook appendage large with three secondary inner barbs (C. tyloda 4).
Remarks
The species is distinguished from C. kampta (Conchoecia kampta) by its deeper bathymetric range, its sculpture pattern, the male first antennal "e" seta armature and the absence of spines on the bases of the sensory setae on the female second antennal endopodite.
Distribution
Known at present from the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Its known range in the Atlantic of 2°N49°N will almost certainly be extended once more sampling at deep bathypelagic depths >2000m is conducted in the South Atlantic. 1 (R.R.S. Discovery Map).
